Design:
The LG Prada Phone is extremely voguish, sleek and yet sophisticated. LG KE850 comes with an innovative touch screen, as I mentioned earlier, this phone doesn’t actually require a stylus to operate. The phone simply reacts to the touch of a user’s finger.
This slim phone measures 98.8 x 54 x 12 mm and weighs the meager 85 g. The body is made of Matte black plastic outlined with a metal silver colored frame. The phone comes with a hard leather casing in its package.
The 3” big display screen of this phone is quiet impressive which displays 262K colors in a WQVGA (400 x 240 pixels) resolution. The bright display preforms really good even in the direct sunlight.
The Phone has two buttons on the right side. One works for launching both media player and camera. A single short time keying launches the media player while the holding on the same key would let the camera to popup. The other key helps to lock the touch sensitivity of the screen that is to avoid any accidental key presses. But there is still the auto-lock feature.
The other side (left) of the phone has the multi-port through which the user can plug the charger, the data cable and the headset. Besides the connectivity port there are dual volume control keys and a sound profile shortcut key. The sound profiles key allows the user to rapidly change between different ringing modes - silent, ringing with or without vibration, etc.
The upper and bottom side of the phone doesn’t have any control keys. But the bottom side has a rear battery cover release button. The microSD card is actually placed down the battery. So to change the memory card the battery should be first removed which feels really uncomfortable.
The phone feels just great in the hands. It fits in the palm very neatly. The size & the light weight of the phone add for a nice user experience.
Features and usability:
LG Prada KE850 is a triband (GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900) phone that supports EDGE and Bluetooth with A2DP connectivity methods. Unfortunately it doesn’t has neither 3G nor HSDPA support.
When it comes to the functions and features, the phone has a highly useable and effective Macromedia Flash based user interface. The user feels really easy to go through the menus and browse through them.
The phone managed to perform really well as a daily usage phone to attend and make calls. It felt no difficult in composing SMS, MMS and emails with the capacitive Touchscreen. The Prada phone can store upto 1000 entries and 40 of each dialed, received and missed calls.
The integrated 2Megapixel Autofocus Camera is finished with with Schneider Kreuznach lens. The Kodak’s Schneider Kreuznach lens provides the user crisp and clear imaging capabilities for their camera and videoing features. The 2Megapixel camera comes with a LED flash, zoom and photo settings that are easy to play with. The video recording can be done at a WQVGA resolution of 400 x 240 pixels which is in fact the wide-screen version of QVGA (320 x 240 pixels). The output files format is the usual 3GP. Taking still photos with the Kodak’s Schneider Kreuznach lens was quiet a good experience. The image quality depends a lot on the lighting conditions. The outdoor photos aren’t bad and the indoor photo results showed only good in day time lighting. It proved no better than the Sony ericsson K750i at still image capturing. But it can be compared with the LG shine though.
The stylish phone supports Java™ games and also supports downloading of latest compatible Java™ games. As any other phone, Prada also comes with the general applications like organizer, alarm clock, calculator and some more useful softwares like document viewers capable of reading MS word, MS excel and PDF documents which are quiet essential for a business class phone like this one. The scrolling of the documents while viewing them seemed to be a little difficult as the scroll drag was very slow. Also to view the images, there is no zoom option available, which is very disappointing.
The Phone comes with only 8 Mb of internal memory and is bundled with a 256MB memory card. The given memory should be enough to put up a small media library and some bunch of office files. The Music player that comes with Prada phone looks cool. Unfortunately there is no track filters like albums and artists in the given music player. All that can be done is just dragging the favorite audio tracks into a playlist. Infact there aren’t even any equalizer settings in the music player.
And about the FM Radio, the receiver works quiet fine but it doesn’t have any RDS support. There is an auto scanning feature that scans for stations pretty unfailingly. But it can save only 12 station frequencies in its memory. By the way, the FM radio can’t be run in the background. The headphones that came with the package sound pretty well and is considerably loud.
The Video player in the phone also looks really good. The user can watch the videos in fullscreen landscape mode.
With all these powerpacked features, the battery of the Prada phone provides approximately 300Hrs of standby battery time from a fully charged battery & up to 3 hours talk time.
Conclusion:
The LG KE850 is definitely a fascinating mobile device and I really enjoyed writing about it. LG really came out with a noticeable fashion statement. The innovative capacitive touch screen really is a great technology to use. Simply the Prada phone can be called the style icon in its class.
If you don’t care of having 3G on your mobile and are not much into web browsing from your mobile and are a stylish gadget freak, then Prada phone is for you if you can afford the expensive price tag.
